Prediction: WiFi Version Will Dominate iPad Sales

Everyone has questions about the iPad, not least of which is which version should I purchase

I don’t know anyone who really enjoys dealing with AT&T. But I do know a lot of people who own an iPod touch. WiFi is at coffee shops, airports, schools, universities, and so on. People who want to push the envelope and are annoyed that the iPad won’t support tethering will likely feel constrained by the lack of 3G. But most everyone else will prefer to keep it simple: Walk into Apple Store. Walk out with iPhone. Start using it. No data plan. No hassle.

Today Apple will be unveiling changes to the iPod lineup. Here are my (bound to be wrong) predictions:

  • Shuffle gets killed off.
  • Nano gets a complete overhaul with a groovy new shell and more capacity. No camera. No FM tuner.
  • Classic gets a camera, a groovy new shell and more capacity. No FM tuner.
  • Touch gets a camera and more capacity.
  • iTunes 9 rollout.
  • Sneak peak of Cocktail and of the new tablet, which will be ready in time for the Christmas season (going way out on a limb with this one).
